Fire Damages Duplex in South Moorhead

At 11:00 am on May 11, 2026, the Moorhead Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on the deck of a duplex in the 4541 19 St S. While enroute, it was reported that the structure had caught fire. Crews arrived to find heavy fire along the entire western side of the building, spreading upward into the structure. Moorhead City staff who happened to be in the area saw the fire and began working with Moorhead Police officers to evacuate the building.

Before the fire was brought under control, it consumed a large portion of the southern unit’s living spaces, attic, and roof. The second unit sustained significant fire damage, and a neighboring home experienced heat damage. Natural gas and electrical service were disconnected for safety. Although no injuries were reported, both units of the duplex cannot be occupied. No initial damage estimate is currently available. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Division.

The Moorhead Fire Department extends its appreciation to the assisting agencies: Moorhead Police Department, Fargo Fire Department, Sabin‑Elmwood Fire District, Dilworth Area Fire Department, F‑M Ambulance Service, Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross.
