May 4–10 and May 11–15 and Oakport May 19, the City will collect furniture, household items, and appliances from single‑family homes on your regular garbage day starting at 5 am. Your Cleanup Day is your garbage day on the week you do NOT have recycling. Visit our Clean Up Days Page to Learn More.
On Monday, May 18, weather permitting, and lasting for approximately three weeks, motorists traveling in Fargo-Moorhead will encounter lane closures on Interstate 94 near the Red River Bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Crews are returning to install the bases and structure for a new overhead message board on the North Dakota side of the river as part of MnDOT’s communication upgrade project. During the upcoming work, there may be times when no workers are present while concrete is curing.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change at any time. MnDOT and the North Dakota Department of Transportation want to remind motorists to slow down and use caution throughout every work zone.

Congratulations to the Moorhead Spudniks Robotics Team! On Monday, May 11, the Moorhead City Council and Mayor Shelly Carlson presented them with the MoorHeart award.
The Moorhead Spudniks Robotics team, using their problem-solving skills and electronics talents, built a “digital hand” for their classmate Amarah Ramirez, to enable her to participate with the rest of her class.
This lighted sign allows her to signal to the teacher when she wishes to ask or answer a question. Through the Spudniks’ hard work and innovation, Amarah can better engage in the classroom. From the nomination – “This is what it means to be in a community, we look out for each other because we are all Spuds.”
At 11:00 am on May 11, 2026, the Moorhead Fire Department was dispatched to a fire on the deck of a duplex in the 4541 19 St S. While enroute, it was reported that the structure had caught fire. Crews arrived to find heavy fire along the entire western side of the building, spreading upward into the structure. Moorhead City staff who happened to be in the area saw the fire and began working with Moorhead Police officers to evacuate the building.
Before the fire was brought under control, it consumed a large portion of the southern unit’s living spaces, attic, and roof. The second unit sustained significant fire damage, and a neighboring home experienced heat damage. Natural gas and electrical service were disconnected for safety. Although no injuries were reported, both units of the duplex cannot be occupied. No initial damage estimate is currently available. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Division.
The Moorhead Fire Department extends its appreciation to the assisting agencies: Moorhead Police Department, Fargo Fire Department, Sabin‑Elmwood Fire District, Dilworth Area Fire Department, F‑M Ambulance Service, Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross.

The City of Moorhead has prepared a draft version of the 2026 Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The priorities established within the draft plan result from citizen participation in the development of the 2025- 2029 5-Year Plan and an April 20, 2026, community meeting. Communication tools included consultations with area agencies identifying assets and needs and analysis of Census and other statistical data.

On April 24, 2026, at approximately 11:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report that an adult male had been struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders located the victim, who was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.
During the initial investigation, officers learned that the caller knew both the suspect and the victim, and the incident was not random. Officers identified the suspected driver as 40‑year‑old Roel Rivera of Moorhead. Rivera was located, arrested, and taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Clay County Correctional Facility on charges of Attempted Second‑Degree Murder and Felony First‑ and Second‑Degree Assault.
This incident remains under active investigation. No additional details are available at this time.
