Traffic Alert: 4 St Road Closure Between Center Ave and 3 St

Starting Friday, July 31, 4 St between Center Ave and 3 St will close permanently to construct a new 4 St that will align just east of the existing parking ramp. Drivers can access 3 St at Center Mall Ave, 1 Ave N or 2 Ave S. Access to the parking ramp will remain open on Red River Ave, located on the north side.

This closure is to allow for additional redevelopment in the Loop District, the former site of the Moorhead Center Mall.

Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes and expect delays and congestion in the construction area.

Construction to begin on 17 St N from 1 to 4 Ave N on Wednesday July 15

Work will begin on 17 St N from 1 Ave N to 4 Ave N at 7 am, Wednesday, July 15. This City Roadway project is scheduled to begin along with underground utilities, curb, sidewalk, and pedestrian ramp improvements. The contractor anticipates this phase of work to last 4-5 weeks, weather permitting.

Properties that are located on 17 St N between 1 Ave N & 4 Ave N will lose direct access to driveways during this construction phase. All affected addresses should utilize adjacent street parking locations outside of the designated construction area. Residents should not park directly adjacent or in front of the closures and construction signage.

Residents on 17 St in the impacted area should remove vehicles from their garages and driveways before the start of work at 7am on Wednesday. Garbage collection and mail delivery will continue as normally scheduled during this portion of the work.

Individuals with disabilities or special access considerations should contact staff as soon as possible when access issues are known. The City will work with residents to meet their access needs during construction.

  • Your Input Needed: 11 St & 14 St Corridor Study

The City of Moorhead is studying the 11 St and 14 St corridors, which currently operate as a one-way street pair between Main Ave and 12 Ave S.

MnDOT update: Portion of 11 St to close week of May 4 for finishing work
Heads up, Moorhead! During the week of May 4, lasting for about a week, there will be an additional closure on 11 St between 1 Ave N and 2 Ave N. Crews will be completing some sidewalk work in that block just north of 1 Ave. Please follow the signed detour.
Once they finish there, the crews will begin doing some finishing touches along First Avenue North, too! Motorists can expect to encounter a lane closure on 1 Ave N during that time.
Construction progress on 11 St Underpass
Progress has continued this spring on the project's excavations and retaining walls in Stage 3 on Center Ave and 11 St. That work remains the primary focus, as crews construct, pour and wait for curing on the retaining walls. They'll soon begin the final connection of the underground utilities as well, and then will start grading the new roadway underneath the underpass bridges on 11 St and rebuilding Center Ave.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses. We are still on schedule for completion in Fall 2026!

Spring Reminder: Time to Redirect Your Sump Pump!

As the spring showers roll in, the City of Moorhead wants to remind residents that it’s time to direct your sump pump discharge outside.

Between now and October 1, sump pumps must not drain into the sanitary sewer system. Instead, they should be directed:

    • Into the storm sewer via a proper connection
    • On the ground at least 20 feet away from your home
    • Through a buried line to the curb

    Why it matters:
Sending sump pump water into the sanitary sewer overwhelms the system, especially during heavy rains, leading to potential sewer backups and costly property damage. This excess water can impact not just your home, but your entire neighborhood.

Before you redirect your discharge line outdoors, double-check that the line is clear of ice and blockages to avoid any overflow or flooding.

It’s a small switch that makes a big difference.
By helping prevent sewer backups and keeping our system running efficiently, you’re protecting your home, and doing your part for the community.

City invites public feedback on 1 Ave N Study

The City of Moorhead is evaluating improvement options for 1 Ave N from 12 St to Center Avenue (Hwy 10) in Moorhead. Ongoing redevelopment, revitalization, and deteriorating pavement conditions along the corridor has prompted an evaluation of the corridor for future reconstruction.

The project will evaluate current and future conditions and utilize public feedback to develop corridor concepts for future implementation. Public feedback is being collected through a project website to gather information on topics such as safety, pedestrian/mobility access, pavement conditions, and business access.

The current construction timeline is tentatively planned for 2027 or 2028.
