Moorhead Police Resolve High-Risk Incident With One Suspect Arrested
At approximately 11:13 am on Thursday, October 22, the Moorhead Police Department was conducting a follow up investigation related to a 2nd Degree Assault incident that occurred on Wednesday, October 21. Officers went to a residence in the 1600 block of 20 S S to speak with a suspect connected to the investigation.
When officers arrived, the suspect locked himself inside the residence and refused to come out. Officers learned he had access to multiple weapons and was experiencing a mental health crisis. To support situational awareness, the Moorhead Fire Department assisted by deploying a drone to provide overhead observation while officers secured the area.
Due to the elevated risk, the Red River Regional SWAT Team was requested to assist in executing a high‑risk warrant. Before tactical operations began, the suspect, Berwar Abdullgafoor, a 34‑year‑old Moorhead resident, exited the residence on his own and surrendered without further incident.
Abdullgafoor was arrested for 2nd Degree Assault, Domestic Assault, and Obstructing Legal Process. He was transported to the Clay County Jail.
There is no ongoing threat to the public. The Moorhead Police Department thanks the Red River Regional SWAT Team and the Moorhead Fire Department for their coordinated response and assistance in safely resolving the incident.
