At approximately 11:36 am, on Wednesday, July 1, officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of 2 Ave N for a report of a possible overdose. As officers were responding, additional information was provided that indicated a male had a firearm and was expressing intent to harm himself. A friend of the male attempted to intervene, resulting in a brief struggle. The friend was able to gain control of the weapon.

Officers were able to quickly enter the building during the struggle and secured the scene. The two males were detained, and the firearm was secured at that time. No injuries occurred during this incident. The male fired at least two rounds; but there is no evidence to indicate that those were directed towards officers or the friend. The male was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.

The investigation remains active, and no additional information is releasable at this time.
