Stormwater Public Education

The City of Moorhead is committed to improving water quality and reducing the amount of pollutants entering our waterways.

Outreach Programs

• River Keepers is a non-profit organization established in 1990 to protect and preserve the integrity and natural environment of the Red River.
• Storm Drain Marking is a volunteer program to teach others in our community about stormwater.
• Storm Drain Doorhanger is a reminder to keep pollutants off streets, driveways, sidewalks and out of our storm drains.
• Adopt-a-Pond is a program to provide residents, business owners, and community groups opportunities to promote better water quality and appearance of stormwater ponds.

Education

Storm drains are not connected to the sanitary sewer or the Wastewater Treatment Facility.

• Storm drains carry rainwater and snowmelt away from developed areas.
• When water flows over the ground it picks up a variety of pollutants.
• Stormwater discharges to ponds, ditches and the Red River.
