Wastewater and Stormwater

The City of Moorhead is committed to protecting public health, preserving our environment, and maintaining essential infrastructure through effective wastewater and stormwater management. These systems play a vital role in ensuring clean water, reducing flooding, and supporting sustainable growth in our community.

Wastewater Services

Wastewater refers to water that has been used in homes, businesses, and industries and needs to be treated before returning to the environment. Moorhead’s wastewater system collects and transports this water to the Wastewater Treatment Facility, where it undergoes a thorough treatment process to remove pollutants and meet state and federal water quality standards.

Stormwater Services

Stormwater is rain or melting snow that flows over streets, lawns, and other surfaces. Unlike wastewater, stormwater does not go to the treatment plant, it flows through storm drains and eventually into local waterways. Managing stormwater helps prevent flooding, erosion, and pollution caused by runoff.
