Cadet Program
This paid, part-time position provides college students and recent graduates with hands-on experience in a professional law enforcement environment.
Who Should Apply
Cadet candidates should be pursuing Minnesota POST (Peace Officer Standards & Training) eligibility and enrolled in or recently graduated with a degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, sociology, or a related field.

Duration & Schedule

- Minimum commitment: 6 months, with opportunities to extend up to two years
- Flexible schedule: 12–25 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends
Responsibilities

- Assist with general patrol support throughout the city
- Respond to non-emergency calls (parking concerns, animal issues, found property, minor thefts)
- Support traffic control and maintain scene perimeters
- Enforce city ordinances (animal control, parking), including issuing citations as permitted
- Respond to citizen complaints and assist with community events
- Prepare reports and documentation for incidents and citations
- Participate in field training activities and collaborate with officers
- Operate department vehicles safely and perform vehicle checks
- Complete additional duties as assigned
