1 Ave N Improvements
The City of Moorhead has studied ways to improve 1 Ave N. Infrastructure improvements are needed to support redevelopment and revitalization along the corridor. This street connects downtown Moorhead to Highway 10/75 (Center Ave), and serves as an important commuter route, so it’s an important path for many people. The study evaluated how 1 Ave N from 12 St N to Center Ave works now and how it might need to work in the future.
The project is proposed to be designed in 2027 and constructed in 2028. Throughout final design, neighbors, businesses, and the community input will be sought to help shape plans for how the street will be rebuilt and improved.

September 4, 2026 Update
The City of Moorhead would like to thank residents, business owners, corridor users, and community partners who participated in the 1st Avenue North Corridor Study.
During the public engagement process, the project team collected feedback through an online interactive comment map, stakeholder meetings, direct outreach, and project communications. More than 70 comments and 350 community interactions were received, helping the project team better understand community priorities and concerns.
Key themes identified through public input included:
- Improving pedestrian safety and crossing opportunities
- Maintaining efficient traffic operations along 1 Ave N
- Supporting bicycle and transit accessibility
- Preserving business access during and after future construction
- Enhancing streetscape features and overall corridor appearance
The feedback received has been incorporated into the study recommendations for a path forward that balances safety, mobility, access, and long-term community goals. Learn more about study recommendations and proposed improvements by watching the videos on the project website.
As the study concludes, City staff will use the findings to guide future project development, preliminary design, funding strategies, and implementation planning. Stay tuned for more updates as the project moves forward.
