Memory Cafe is a free social gathering where people experiencing mild to moderate memory loss, and their care partners, come together in a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. At Memory Cafe we are committed to reminding our participants they are valued, significant members of our local community by changing the way we think about memory loss.

Join Total Balance Physical Therapy and Fitness in learning how to look for and deal with pain in everyday activities. Each month features a different discussion topic while showing movement exercises that are good to use in everyday living.

About Moorhead is a 15-minute Speaker Series designed especially for Seniors who want to learn more about Moorhead, straight from the leaders who help shape our community every day. Each session will be exciting, engaging, and a great way to stay connected with what’s happening across our departments and partner organizations. Join us, stay curious, and discover Moorhead in just 15 minutes.

Sessions start at 12:30 pm and are 15 minutes. All sessions are held in the Pine Room in the Hjemkomst. Free to attend and no RSVP required - however, you may want to join for lunch at 11:45 am beforehand. Visit the Senior Meals page to view the menu and for information on how to register.

Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County presents "Let's Talk History-Clay County." Events are co-sponsored by the Moorhead Senior Center.

April 16: Fargo Moorhead's Hardanger Fiddle Renaissance presented by HCSCC Research Historian, Markus Krueger.

  • See a homemade Hardanger Fiddle and learn why there are more people making this Norwegian folk violin in Fargo-Moorhead than in the rest of the USA combined.

May 21: Flying Fearless: Stella Fernandez Watson, Stunt Flying and First Female "Aerial Cop" presented by HCSCC Clay County Archivist, Petra Gunderson-Leith.

  • In August of 1922, Moorhead gave Stella Fernandez Watson a unique title: the first female "aerial cop" in the world. 

June 18: Tour of the Bergquist Log Cabin at 1008 7th St N, Moorhead.

  • This is your chance to peek inside the Swedish Homestead Cabin that was here before Moorhead was founded. Historical Society Board Member Dr. Vijay Gaba will also show his harmonium, an instrument be brought from India. 

July 16: Shang Stanton's Revolver presented by HCSCC Clay County Collections Manager, Lisa Vedaa.

  • This beautiful revolver was involved in a wild west gunfight in Moorhead on April 25, 1872, that left two people dead and led directly to the formation of Clay County's government.

2026 AARP Free Income Tax Assistance Poster

AARP and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are once again sponsoring free income tax services to the elderly, low and moderate income taxpayers of all ages with special attention to those 60 and older. Certified IRS volunteers have been trained to prepare and electronically file your income tax returns. Every taxpayer's return is quality reviewed and all information is kept confidential.

  • Bring all tax documents on paper to your appointment. Plan to spend 2.5 to 3 hours.
  • Bring all documents needed to file before coming to the tax sites.
  • Bring Social Security cards, photo IDs and a copy of last year's tax returns.

This half-day conference provides advice for managing the stress and fears of caregiving, with information and services relevant to the needs of both the caregiver and the individual being cared for.
