Seniors Services
The City of Moorhead’s Senior Center, located in the Hjemkomst Center, offers a full calendar of social, nutrition, and wellness programming designed to help older adults stay connected and active. Highlights include the weekday Lunch Bunch congregate meals at 11:45 am (with advance reservation), plus weekly card groups, mahjong, the Artist Group, singing, and drop‑in “Social Circle” coffee hours. Monthly offerings add movement education with local physical therapists, quilting gatherings, Bingo, a Breakfast Club, and a Memory Café for individuals experiencing mild memory loss and their care partners. Program details, schedules, and sign‑ups are managed by Parks & Recreation via the Senior Center webpage and newsletter.
There are a number of senior housing options in Moorhead covering the spectrum from independent living condominiums to skilled nursing care and memory care facilities.
The City of Moorhead assists low- and moderate-income homeowners who are elderly and/or disabled with snow removal services.
To make accessing programs easier, the City also coordinates affordable transportation. Metro Senior Ride provides door‑to‑door service for residents age 60+ with transfer connections to MATBUS if needed; MAT Paratransit serves riders who are ADA‑eligible, with shared, door‑through‑first‑door service operating across Moorhead (reservations required). Seniors also receive reduced fixed‑route bus fares, and MATBUS maintains fare‑capping options through its Connect system to keep costs low. Together, these services help ensure that older adults can reach meals, activities, medical appointments, and community events safely and affordably.
