2026 Community Garden Grant 

Do you currently operate a small community garden or have you wanted to start one? 

This grant supports organizations and individuals who would like to start/operate a community garden on private land within the City of Moorhead. (City-owned property is not available for this program.) The City anticipates awarding up to four grants with a minimum value of $500 each for community gardens in 2026. Community garden plots must be open and available to the public and either be free or have a minimal cost to join/reserve a plot of land. Funds must be utilized for garden purposes only.

GreenStep Cities:

Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a voluntary challenge, assistance and recognition program that aims to help municipalities across the state achieve and improve upon their sustainability goals. The program is structured with a 5 step improvement system, starting at step 1, where municipalities aim to make improvements that move them to higher steps.

Moorhead officially joined the program on July 24th, 2017. Since then, the City has taken on efforts to progress through the program. In 2022, Moorhead attained Step 5 status, the highest achievement level in the program, by improving upon a multitude of sustainability related metrics. Moorhead has made many advancements through the program.

Mayors’ Monarch Pledge

Moorhead pledges to partake in actions that commit to creating a healthy, sustainable habitat for the monarch butterfly and pollinators. Each year, Moorhead selects specific actions outlined by the program to support pollinator conversions, education, and community engagement efforts that help protect these vital species. 

EV Readiness Study

Moorhead participated in MetroCOG’s EV Readiness Study which conducted an analysis to ensure that the FM metropolitan area is EV-ready by developing a vision for electric vehicle readiness, identifying key partnerships and actionable strategies, and facilitating community support for EVs.
